Neuchâtel is located in the French speaking part of Switzerland, the cantons of Bern, Fribourg and Vaud, being close neighbours. The cities of Geneva, Lausanne and Bern are respectively 120, 60 and 50 km away. The three main airports in Switzerland can all be reached in less than two hours. Neuchâtel has a high quality of life, with its proximity to several lakes, verdant countryside and a range of mountains rising to over 1500 m. A large range of sports and hobbies are available. Walking and cycling networks are numerous, lakes allow swimming and sailing, while winter offers skiing or snowshoeing to mountain lovers. Culturally, the area is characterized by multiple sites of a remarkable view of the landscape, history or architecture.
Besides the two main cities of Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds (about 40,000 inhabitants each), the region is still partially agricultural. The engineering industry is highly developed, with watches, mechanical engineering, micromechanics and increasingly biotechnology. Working places in industry and services are numerous. Housing is not a problem, especially if you appreciate living in the countryside. Neuchâtel has a university, an international school and opportunities to complete academic and vocational training. As elsewhere in Switzerland, public transportation services offered are easily accessible, quality and operate reliably.
Each fall, Neuchâtel organizes a Harvest Festival. It is a fitting tribute to the generosity of nature that appears pleasing to the people of this region.
