Ingolstadt is a city in Bavaria, located along the banks of the Danube River. Ingolstadt, with about 125,000 residents, is part of the Munich Metropolitan Area, which has a total population of more than 5 million.

Economically, it is a very dynamic city, where the headquarters of the German automobile manufacturer Audi, defence aircraft manufacturer Cassidian Air Systems (formerly EADS DS) and electronic stores Media Markt and Saturn.

The Illuminati, a Bavarian secret society, was founded in Ingolstadt in the late 18th century. Ingolstadt is also the setting for the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, for the monster created by the scientist Victor Frankenstein.
